Configure Cascade relationships

Choose whether linked records survive or are deleted with their parent.

How to do it

  1. Open Settings → Objects & fields → Relationships. Choose Add relationship and select Cascade. Select the child object first and the parent object second, then name the link. The supported objects are Contacts, Companies, Deals, Products and custom objects.
  2. Select the parent on the child record. Custom-object links use the existing related-record selector; standard CRM records and product records provide related-record fields. Standard Contact–Company and Deal–Company/Contact relationships use their existing fields.
  3. Deleting a Cascade parent also deletes its linked children and their Cascade descendants. Normal Lookup records remain independent. Company → Contacts is built in as Cascade.
  4. Use Change type on an existing configured relationship to switch between Lookup and Cascade. The setting immediately applies to existing links; changing type itself does not delete records.
  5. The requester and reviewer must have delete permission for every affected object. Approval Inbox includes child totals. If records or Cascade definitions change after review, submit a new request. Circular Cascade configurations are rejected.
  6. Deletion is atomic for each parent and its descendants. A blocked delete or concurrent membership change rolls back that parent’s deletion. A single Cascade is limited to 500 records, 500 linked groups and 20 configured levels; delete smaller child batches first for larger trees.

Check your result

In a test business, create a parent with one Cascade child and one Lookup child. Delete the parent: the Cascade child is removed and the Lookup child is retained.

Good to know

This is a deletion policy, not inherited record visibility or mandatory parent membership. It adds no separate hosting service. Existing orders and invoice history are not made Cascade children automatically.
