WhatsApp Studio
Manage subscriber IDs and independent channel subscriptions
Use permanent subscriber identities for email and phone-only contacts.
How to do it
- Open Marketing → Subscribers. Choose Add subscriber → WhatsApp with its international number and country; an email address is optional. A permanent SUB-prefixed subscriber ID is generated automatically.
- Phone identities created by WhatsApp inbound messages, campaign preparation enrollment also join this shared registry. A unique matching CRM Contact and existing email subscriber are reused when available. Ambiguous phone matches remain unlinked.
- Open the subscriber record to inspect its permanent ID, mapped subscriber key, email preferences, phone channels, consent history and communication activity. Changing a mapped key does not change the permanent ID.
- Use Manage channel consent to choose WhatsApp. Record the purpose, collection source and evidence of explicit opt-in. WhatsApp marketing, utility and authentication are separate;
- Use channel filters and search by subscriber ID, mapped key, name, email or phone. WhatsApp Studio Contacts & consent links back to the same Subscriber record.
- An inbound STOP suppresses business-initiated WhatsApp sends. Email unsubscribe remains an email preference. Removing WhatsApp suppression does not restore old opt-ins.
Check your result
A phone-only subscriber has a permanent ID, no invented email address, and no promotional opt-in until explicit consent is recorded.
Good to know
The shared ID identifies the person’s subscription record. Individual channel addresses, consent events and provider message IDs remain distinct. Two different people sharing a phone or email are not silently merged.
